About videobook.club
A videobook is an audiobook you can see. A book lies open on a table, a voice reads, and the text appears page by page, as if it were being written at that very moment. Small paper windows open between the lines to show the story unfolding. Afterwards, they remain on the page, like illustrations in an old book.
You can watch a videobook like a film, read along like a book, or simply listen. The complete text is there, every page, in the order the author intended. Nothing is abridged or retold.
videobook.club is an art project, not a business. It features only public-domain works, which belong to everyone, and aims to make them accessible in a new way: for people who no longer find time for long books, for those who prefer listening, and for anyone who wants to watch a page turn again.
Using the library
- Browse: Cloth-bound books are available as videobooks or in progress. Parchment-bound books are waiting to become videobooks. Take one off the shelf to learn more.
- Turn pages: Use the page bar, table of contents, or arrow keys to move from page to page in the player.
- Bookmarks: Use the button below the video or press L. Your last reading position is saved automatically on this device, in this browser.
- Cinema mode: Press K to dim the area around the book.
- Margin notes: Notes can be linked to individual book pages. Posting new notes is currently disabled.
- On YouTube: Each available film can also be watched on YouTube via its book page.
The little hand
For centuries, readers drew a small hand in the margin to point out passages that must not be overlooked. It is the symbol of videobook.club. Beside the margin notes, it raises a finger: anyone with something to say about a book should have a voice.
